Measures to control Anthracnose Disease in Soybean crop

Anthracnose is a group of fungal diseases that affect a wide variety of plants in warm, humid areas. Anthracnose disease can cause significant yield losses, sometimes up to 80% or more, depending on the crop and the severity of the infection. This is because the disease can damage leaves, stems, flowers, and fruits, reducing the plant's ability to produce food.

  • Environmental favorable factors for pests/Diseases:
  • Temperature: The fungus thrives in temperatures between 25°C and 30°C.
  • Humidity: High relative humidity levels (above 85%) favor spore germination and disease spread.

  • Symptoms of Pest/Disease:
    • Irregularly shaped red to dark brown blotches on stems and petioles (leaf stalks).
    • Shepherd's crooking of stems, where the stem bends at a sharp angle. This is caused by lesions that girdle the stem, preventing water and nutrients from reaching the upper part of the plant.
    • Brown, sunken lesions on pods. If the pods are severely infected, they may not produce any seeds, or the seeds that do develop may be small and shriveled.
    • Dark, pinhead-sized structures on the stems, pods, and leaves. These are the fruiting bodies of the fungus, which produce spores that can spread the disease to other plants.
